Beauty draws us with a single hair- Alexander Pope

POINT OF FACT

Ok ladies, time to get real. How do you see yourself? Seriously.

While I was sweating my ass off at the gym last night I decided to catch an episode if TLCs What Not To Wear. I adore Stacy and Clinton and find their advice for style intriguing. At any rate, the woman that they were making over was a style editor who was incredibly cute and was hiding under frumpy fashions and shapeless hair. Why? Because she wasn’t comfortable with herself.

I think as women we all struggle with self image and a huge part of that is seeing what the “ideal” woman is on TV and in Magazines. Fact of the matter is, those women are beautiful yes, but, if you are confident in who you are, dress for your body type and have a style that suits your bone structure and skin tone, you will kill it no matter what! (Even if you aren’t a size negative two!)

My advice to you would be the same as what Stacy and Clinton gave to this lovely woman: Stop listening to the negative voices in your head, they lie to you. Look for the parts of yourself that you love and highlight those features. Maybe its your eye color, or the shape of your jaw, your shoulders, or how long your legs are, emphasize your best assets. For instance, I love my collar bones and my chest bones, because I have defined bone structure here I tend to play up those areas.

When all was said and done, the woman was so excited to have shed the idea of who she thought she was and how she thought she looked and instead embracing the woman that she actually is. So liberating and I love it!

So go in confidence, find the woman you ARE and as always stay fabulous!

BIG DAY PREP

There are few things in life that women feel more pressure to be perfect for than their wedding day. They are the center off attention, as they walk down the isle, have their photos taken, and build memories that will last a life time.

To be sure that you will look perfect on your special day here are somethings to do:

-Talk to your stylist and set your bridal vision for how you want to look and feel. Decide on the color, length, body, and general style of your hair. If you need drastic color work make sure that you are booking in regular treatments to keep your hair in good shape, if you want more body or length figure out what type of extensions your stylist offers or if they know of a reliable place to get them.

-Figure out what you will need to keep your hair healthy and photo ready. Invest in good products, have treatments done and get trims regularly.

-Find out what shapes and styles fit your dress and your face shape. A lot of brides make the mistake of wanting something because its pretty, but the reality is that it looks terrible on them. Take some time in the mirror and figure out what is most flattering, and what makes you feel the most beautiful.

In the end the day is about you and the person you love. The photos and memories shared after the fact will just be a reminder of how wonderful everything was, so don’t sweat the small stuff and enjoy your time.

And of course, stay fabulous!

TRIBUTE

This week the entire fashion industry took a huge blow. Vidal Sassoon, who was a young 84, passed away on May 9, 2012.

He was an icon, a visionary, and a brilliantly talented man. His life is an incredible story and he will be very missed.

                                                   * SWEPT AWAY

Lady’s, no matter how much we deny it, we all dream of being swept away. Maybe your dream is a prince that falls for your enchanting beauty, or a night in shining armor who comes to your rescue. But, no matter your fantasy, you need to be ready when your dream boat appears.

In order to achieve this, you will need a hair style that transcends typical boundaries. A style that can go from day to night, from hippie chic, to effortless and romantic in no time at all (not to mention a style that is easy enough to do yourself, but looks like you went and had it done!). And here is how:

Start by prepping your hair: Use a heat protection spray or serum and run it through the mid-lengths and ends. Spray a light hold hair spray through your hair for added grip.

*Flat iron curl your hair for a soft romantic look, or turn up the volume with a curling wand for a more intense curl.

Now you are ready to start your style.

Take the heavier side of your hair (the side you part towards) and start twisting your hair back and away.

Add hair in as you wrap the twist across the back of your head (think horizontal french twist), pinning as you go to secure it into place.

The best part about this style is that you can wear it several ways.

1- Leave the twist loosely pinned behind the opposite ear, allowing the front section to hang soft and flowing.

2- Twist the opposite side back and meet the twist, pinning them together for security.

3- Add in a braid for a more hippie chic feel.

The key to any style is anchoring in your bobby pins. To do so take the pin and push it down into the section, “hook” the pin back into your hair (making a “c” motion with your hand), finish by pushing the pin into place.

I hope you find this style simple, chic, and above all fabulous!

“IF YOU DON’T LOOK GOOD, WE DON’T LOOK GOOD” -VIDAL SASSOON

I have a question for you dear bloggers… Why do people do the things they do? What are the underlying causes for the decisions they make, the ones that make them think, “Yeah… This seems like a good idea”. Such as, perms in the 80s, or copying Kate Gosselins hair cut.

I have motive for asking this. I have been traveling a lot for work and to visit my fiancé in LA and as I mentioned before people watching in airports is one of my favorite past times.

This week as at sat in the Ohare airport watching people and reading the final book in the Hunger Games trilogy (seriously so good, go buy it right now) I began to look at people and wonder… What made you look in the mirror before leaving your house to venture into a public location where thousands of people will see you and think… “yeah, I look good.”

There are the business men, the house wives, pajama monsters, and the few, the proud, the fashionable. In fact as I write this I just witnessed two perfect examples to help prove my point- girl one is rocking a shell bun perched perfectly atop her head with a tussled fringe falling over her forehead… girl two, though dressed well, has a greasy, half hearted, falling over shell bun that looks as though it has been slept on for a week. Same look… but entirely different.

This brings me to a juncture- What makes you feel your most fabulous? When do you look in the mirror and think, “I look good.”

I challenge you to take an hour (I realize that may be pushing it… take, thirty minutes) and go through a few styles, figure out what suites your face, what is easy to do, and how you feel your best. Maybe your signature look is simple beach waves, a side braid or even a chic ballerina bun.

Whatever your look may be, go, wear it proudly, and as always stay fabulous.

Paperself  is a company that has taken the idea of fabulous eye wear beyond your average lash (to say the least). They come in various shapes and sizes from corner peacock feathers to woodland creatures and wondrous other worldly designs, these lashes are sure to make your eyes pop!

So go, be bold, have fun and as always stay fabulous!

THE HUNGER GAMES

Last night was the highly anticipated premier of The Hunger Games. Thousands of fans packed out hundreds of theaters and waited with baited breath for the movie to start. And from what I hear few were disappointed.

Katniss Everdeen is there heroin of the story, and although she is fighting to survive in the games she still manages to look fantastic while she is at it. Her signature look is a half wrapped inside out french braid. Here is how to do it for yourself:

-Leave a small section of hair loosely falling by your face

-Take the first section and divide it into three sections

-Cross the top strand UNDER the middle strand, then cross the bottom strand UNDER the middle strand.

-Add hair into each section as you continue braiding (like you would a french braid)

-Once you reach the opposite side bring the front hair back into the braid and start the braid going down into a regular 3 strand braid, so that it falls over your shoulder

-Tie with a clear rubber band. For fun wrap the band in a small section of hair to hide it

Stay strong and stay fabulous!

FRIZZY FIXES

This morning I woke up and for the first time since fall I had to fight off Humidity (such a dirty word when our hair is involved isn’t it?).  And it got me thinking about all the easy tricks that will help all of you fight off fluffy, frizzy, fuzzy hair this season.

-Dry your hair ALL THE WAY. If there is any moisture left in your hair it will attract the moisture out of the air causing your hair to become frizzy. To check and make sure that your hair is throughly dry, use the “Cold” button on your hair dryer and run it back over your hair, any areas that are still damp will become cold and more evident.

-Dry your hair FROM SCALP TO ENDS. By directing the airflow down the hair you are sealing the cuticle shut. When you blow dry up into your hair you are opening the cuticle (think christmas tree) which will cause your hair to look more fuzzy and damaged.

-Use a THERMAL PROTECTOR. A lot of thermal protectors have anti humidity ingredients so on top of sealing your hair and protecting it, it will keep your hair smooth all day long.

-Get a SMOOTHING TREATMENT. In high humidity season give your salon a call and see what anti humidity treatments they offer. I am a huge fan of the Kerastase Oleo Relax Slim Treatment, it will change your life if you are prone to fuzz.

Stay smooth and fabulous this humidity season!
